Gravedigger Done Dug In, Yep

Monster truck

The menfolk took the sons/nephews to the monster truck pull at the [insert sponsor] Dome last winter. It was surreal. A packed house of 60,000-plus there to see their “favorite trucks.” Or drivers. I’m not sure which, but they were out in force, and the pickup truck-to-sedan ratio in the streets of north St. Louis that night was way, way, WAY steeper than on any other night of the year. The amount of camo’ was excessive, too. Lotta testosterone, lotta engine revving, lotta noise, lotta mullets — lotta extended middle-fingers, peel-outs, and cutting off via Camaro in the parking lots, too. It was beautiful.

It seems, everyone is there to see trucks jump, cars (unoccupied) crumple, and Gravedigger, the People’s Favorite truck, drive around doing donuts until it falls apart in a heap (above). There was also some sort of “heat” like competition, but that was an afterthought, and seemed as valid as a pro wrestling “competition.”

Afterward, people lined a ring around HALF the DOME — I shit not — to get autographs from six of the drivers. Surreal.

The Line Starts Here…and ends on MLK Blvd.
